"Hell Raised"
As I continued my journey through college as a creative writing major, this was my first short story that I produced for the class. This for me marks a time that I felt I was improving as a writer. I had learned many new ways to improve my writing and my professor for my Introduction to Creative Writing class gave me multiple tips and tricks to help me excel as a writer. College had made me confident that I could be a good writer and I was ready to learn more and continue improving.
Though, as I was writing this piece and sensing my strength as a writer growing already, I also had other desires that were growing in my mind as well. None of which involved myself as a creative writing major. This was the last piece of creative writing I would produce in my college career.
For this assignment our professor expressed that we were to produce a short story that was fictional and completely original. It was a way for the professor to get a better idea of how our creative our minds worked and what interesting stories we would think up. I feel that a scholar that would appreciate the wade varieties which were covered in my creative writing course would be Amy Devitt. In her essay "Genre Pedagogies", Devitt explains how having students write in different genre's is beneficial to student and enhances their chances of succeeding as writers in any area. I feel that writing this story helped me do just that. Writing this short story allowed me to practice yet another type of genre and improve my writing in the process.
